The Sacred Solway Trail leaflet provides information for visitors on a group of nine churches at Burgh-by-Sands, Beaumont, Great Orton, Aikton, Holm Cultram Abbey at Abbeytown, Newton Arlosh, Kirkbride and Bowness-on-Solway – all situated in the Carlisle/Wigton/Silloth area - with their histories, opening times and locations.

 

All the churches can be visited by car in a single day, although to allow time to explore and enjoy them more thoroughly spreading a visit over two separate days would be likely to be more rewarding. They can all be accessed on foot by walkers, but the geographical area they cover, while relatively compact, would need to be at a much more leisurely pace! There are some fascinating discoveries to be made by those making the journey to visit these interesting – and in some cases little known – churches.
