A warm welcome to the East Solway Churches website. Perhaps you’re interested in learning about and visiting our historic church buildings made from Hadrian’s Wall stone; or perhaps you live within our parishes (or are moving in) and want to find out about the Christian faith, our Church life and our service times, or about weddings and baptisms etc. We hope you find the information and/or contacts that you want within our site.

May the Lord Jesus bless you,

Rev Tudor Boddam-Whetham

Church Life

The Mission of our churches is

‘Helping everyone enjoy life in all its fullness through being disciples of Jesus’

Life is best lived together, and with our maker … but as we’re all different we have a variety of ways listed below (in addition to Sunday services listed on the webpages for each church building) which we pray may help you explore/join/continue with us the best journey through this life and beyond – with God himself.

YOUNG PEOPLE & FAMILIES

At Church - All our churches have play areas and toys for children to use during services (and at other times).

At School – working in partnership with our local primary schools in Burgh-by-Sands, Great Orton, Kirkbampton and Wiggonby and the Christian charity NISCU (www.niscu.org.uk) we are involved in assemblies, RE lessons, and special services/assemblies for Harvest, Christmas, Easter etc.

In the Local Community - we are working together, and with other local Christians, to share the free love of God in Jesus at community events (such as School fairs, and events at the Watchtree Nature Reserve - www.watchtree.co.uk

ADULTS

Growth groups – all are welcome to join us as we explore and grow in our friendship and faith in Jesus through bible study and prayer, typically accompanied by coffee, tea, cakes, and laughte

Prayer Suppers - we are holding quarterly prayer suppers with those from across our proposed Mission Community at various locations. Please contact us for more details.

Mothers’ Union (Burgh-by-Sands branch) typically meet monthly @ Burgh Village Hall on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 2pm - details can be found in the Parish Magazine which can be downloaded opposite.

Occasional events and courses

Christianity Explored– a great opportunity to (re)examine the heart of the Christian Faith, and ask any questions, in a friendly, informal home-based discussion group (over 7 evenings) where you can contribute as little or as much as you want. Contact us if you might be interested in joining the next group.

Lent Course – in the run up to Easter, we invite a variety of guest preachers to open up a bible passage within this year’s overall subject, prompt us to discussion, field our questions, and join us in song and prayer.

Marriage Preparation Course – annually run over 6 evenings @ The Rectory, Burgh-by-Sands for those preparing not just for their wedding day but for a marriage to last a life-time!
