Heritage Open Days

The Three Solway Churches (St Michael's Burgh-by-Sands, St Mary's Beaumont and St Michael's Bowness-on-Solway) usually take part in the national Heritage Open Days scheme. But owing to the Covid 19 pandemic there are different arrangements for 2021 please see below.

All three usually offer light refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits/squash) and a steward to welcome visitors and show them round if required.  Trained guides are also on duty at St. Michael’s Burgh-by-Sands.

Heritage Open Days 2021

St. Michael’s Church, Burgh-by-Sands and St. Michael’s Church, Bowness-on-Solway, are both looking forward to welcoming visitors under the Heritage Open Days project on Saturday 11 September 2021 from 11 am to 4 pm.  Guided visits to both churches will be available.  Burgh Church has disabled access and WC facilities, but for this year it is not possible to offer tours of the tower to first floor level.  It is hoped to do that again in 2022.

The tours are subject to possible cancellation at the time if the prevailing conditions then suggest this would be prudent, so if you are planning a visit to either church that day we would advise email info@eastsolwaychurches.org.uk  ahead of setting out, to check that the opening and tours are still taking place.

Heritage Open Days arrangements (other than in 2021)
